Savory Smashed Potatoes

These Savory Smashed Potatoes are a family favorite here! I started making them a few years ago and they have been a hit ever since! They are naturally gluten and dairy free and honestly make the perfect side or appetizer! I almost always pair them with a garlic aioli sauce because sauce makes most things better. At least in my opinion sauce makes things better. Are you a sauce fan?

Let’s talk about potatoes

Did you know I didn’t eat potatoes for a year or two? I was having horrible heartburn and discovered that potatoes (and some other starchy foods) were triggering it. Which made me so sad, because I love potatoes. Mashed, smashed, roasted, fried, all of it! They make such a good side dish and I missed them so much. No matter what anyone says, cauliflower is not a good sub! Ha! But I am back to eating them and do fine mostly! It’s amazing what our bodies are capable of. Ok, let’s talk more specifically about my Savory Smashed Potatoes!

Smashed Potatoes

So the trick to good smashed potatoes is to get them nice and crispy (and add a good sauce of course). So unlike roasted potatoes which go right into the oven, these baby potatoes are boiled first to get them soft! Once they are soft, I will take two pieces of parchment paper and smash them between with a flat bottomed glass. It works great! And then you bake them to make them at a high temperature (and sometimes broil at the end) to get them perfectly golden brown!

Are you a sauce person?

Last, but not least, let’s talk about the garlic aioli. It’s amazing and perfect on these potatoes. It’s a very simple recipe, but I love the flavor it adds. Basil aioli, ranch, or even hummus would be good with these too! It’s all about playing around with what flavors you like and making some simple sauces to pair things with! Speaking of sauce, you HAVE to try these Sweet Potato Fries with a Sriracha Aioli. So good! You’ll have to to let me know what you end up trying with these! Without further ado, here is the recipe!
