Workspace for your Big Kids

Today we are sharing ideas for an adorable workspace for your big kids! Has your son or daughter requested a “big kid” room yet? It may even be the perfect Christmas gift! My girls, who are seven, requested a “big kid” room last spring. They love all things arts, crafts and writing, so this adorable workspace was just what they needed!

Brett and I built our house and moved in in December of 2014!  It is crazy to think that we have been here five years already.  Even though we have been here five years, we have been slow to decorate.  When we moved in, we still hadn’t sold our other house, were paying two mortgages and the thought of buying new furniture and decorations stressed us out.  So we didn’t. We weren’t in a place financially where we felt comfortable doing that and our “old” furniture worked just fine.

Over the past year or so, however,  we have slowly started to refurnish and decorate our home.  We are going room by room and it has been so fun. Last spring, our living room got a makeover and this past summer, we redecorated and designed our girls’ rooms.  They requested a desk, a reading nook and specific colors. So I went with it and designed with their requests in mind.  I’m excited to share part of the girls’ space with you! Keep in mind that I am no interior designer, but I think everything turned out really cute.

Desk Workspace for your Big kids

Out of the whole room, I want to share their desk area with you.  This little area in their room turned out to be my favorite part.  Since July (when we finished their rooms), they have spent many hours coloring, drawing and writing stories at their desks and it’s just the cutest space.  Everything we found for these spaces (including their desks, which are around $50) was very reasonable. My girls can be rough on things… read: not careful when it comes to their coloring, etc. so we wanted to get things that were cute, but not worry or stress about them ruining them.  You guys get it, right?!

We hit all of the regular stops … Target, Hobby Lobby, Home Goods, Marshalls and World Market! H&M also has some adorable pieces for the home. Katie highlighted some of her favorites here. We found some great items and most of what you see in the pictures is linked by the picture.  Do your kids have a “big kid” room yet? How old were your kids when they got one?
